What is Womb Healing?

Womb healing is a gentle, land-based practice that sees the womb as a sacred space, a place of creation, intuition, and deep feminine energy. The womb is not just a physical organ, but a living, energetic center that holds both our own stories and the echoes of our ancestral lineage. Over time, it can gather emotional imprints, unprocessed feelings, and even generational wounds.

One of the common treads I see in my practice, is that most women have experienced some form of reproductive trauma (miscarriages, abuse, birth injuries, endometriosis, PCO’s) etc.

In ancient times, shamans were also midwifes and doulas, they used herbs and natural medicines to help women navigate the cycles of life.

Some Womb Healing Practices Include:

  • Energy healing, to assist with releasing trauma imprints and create more space
  • Womb blessings, are energetic transmissions to help healing ancestral patterns and old wounds
  • Abdominal massage, in places like Mexico and Guatemala, there are women who specialize in rebalancing the womb space by providing energetic massages

Approximately 2 years ago, I had a very vivid dream that I will never forget. I was in a hospital with a young woman in a robe and I was setting aside healing herbs like chamomile, yarrow and naming them. The girl in the dream been abused and I was there to assist her with releasing the trauma. As soon as I woke up and immediately started asking my network of healer friends what this form of healing was called, the answer was: Yoni Steaming.

What is Yoni Steaming?

Yoni steaming, also known as vaginal steaming or “v-steaming,” is a holistic self-care ritual that involves sitting or squatting over a pot of warm, herb-infused steam. The steam gently warms the pelvic area, allowing the medicinal properties of the herbs to permeate the vaginal tissues and surrounding areas.

Origins of Yoni Steaming:

The practice has deep roots in ancient traditions across various cultures. It was used as a sacred and therapeutic ritual in:

  • Ancient Mayan and Chinese cultures, where it was believed to cleanse and support the external vaginal area
  • Ancient Egypt, where women used herbal steam baths to purify the uterus after childbirth
  • Other global traditions, where it was seen as a way to honor and nurture feminine wellness

Benefits of Yoni Steaming:

Yoni steaming can offer physical and emotional benefits:

  • Promote relaxation and reduce stress by creating a calming, meditative experience
  • Increase circulation to the pelvic area, which may support uterine health
  • Soothe menstrual discomfort and help with irregular cycles
  • Support postpartum recovery, as it has historically been used to cleanse and heal after childbirth

Plants as Sacred Allies

The herbs used in yoni steaming are seen as sacred allies that carry their own spiritual and healing properties. Each herb is chosen with intention for its energetic qualities as well as its physical benefits.

Emotional and Energetic Cleansing

The womb is a powerful energetic center that can store emotions, memories, and even ancestral imprints. Yoni steaming can help release these energies, creating space for renewal and clarity.

A Sacred Ritual of Healing

Yoni steaming is not just a physical practice but a sacred ritual of self-love, healing, and spiritual connection. It is a way to honor the body, release what no longer serves, and invite in balance, vitality, and divine feminine energy.

The Rite of the Womb

Is a beautiful healing ceremony gifted to the world by Marcela Lobos, Chilean medicine woman and teacher in the Munay-Ki tradition. It is part of the 13th Rite of the Munay-Ki, a sacred energetic transmission meant to heal and honor the divine feminine within all of us.At its heart, this rite is about tenderness. It gently invites us to release the old wounds, stories, and grief that women and the feminine spirit in everyone have carried through generations.

Many of us hold pain in our bellies, our creative center, without even knowing it: the sorrows of our mothers and grandmothers, the weight of loss, the echoes of a world that hasn’t always honored the sacred feminine. When we receive the Rite of the Womb, we are lovingly reminded that the womb is not a place to store fear or pain it is a sacred space of creation and birth.

Through this ceremony, we are invited to reconnect with our own inner creative power, to nurture ourselves, and to bring forth new life in whatever form that takes: children, art, dreams, healing, or a deeper way of being in the world. Those who receive this rite often speak of feeling a quiet softening a sense of coming home to their body, their intuition, and their own gentle strength. It is a blessing not only for ourselves, but for our lineages and the generations to come. As Marcela Lobos reminds us: this rite plants a seed of healing in the womb of creation, so that we may birth a world rooted in love, harmony, and respect for all life.
