Practicing Loving Kindness
I would like to share some of my favorite practices to help the world feel a little bit brighter when you need it.
Practicing self-care is one of the best ways to avoid burn out, fatigue and overwhelm.
With constant news cycle, your brain has little time to rest and process the influx of things happening including wars, natural disasters etc. Human brains perceive danger even if it is far away as an immediate threat.
Practicing Loving-Kindness:
Loving kindness is a Buddhist practice that applies to yourself and others. Imagine love growing in your heart, allow it to expand to yourself, your city, your country, and the world.
Envision a world that is safe, where people can thrive and have all their needs met.
This is the Metta prayer, it is so very beautiful:
May all beings be peaceful
May all beings be happy
May all beings be safe
May all beings awaken to the light of their true nature
May all beings be free

Some of the benefits of practicing Loving-Kindness include:
- Waking up refreshed
- Having pleasant dreams
- Other people regard you with affection
- Animals and pets regard you with affection
- Celestial beings watch over you
- Concentrating quickly
- Having a brighter complexion
- Finding your unique way to contribute to the world
- Sleeping better
Recently, I was very touched by some good news in my local community. A women’s networking group organized volunteers to paint the local animal shelter. The pictures are beautiful and it made my heart fill with joy.
Ask yourself what can I do to make the world a better place?
A few days ago, I returned from a week long trip facilitating at a women’s retreat in a remote area in the Yukon. I had the blessing of working with one of the local First Nations doing individual and group sessions. I love my job! it is a calling that fuels me and propels me to keep going even during times of uncertainty.
Some ideas to fill your cup:
- Join a seed bank
- Plant a community garden
- Become a mentor, teach what you know
- Find a class that makes you happy
- Volunteer for a cause dear to your heart
